There are many books and references in how to write the perfect resume or CV, yet the focus always seems to be about fitting your life onto one page (a rather poor epitaph to a career you have worked hard to build). Either that or we read about power words that recruiters and headhunters will get so excited by, that they may well fall off their chairs while grabbing the phone to call you in for an interview.
After years of being an employer myself, including running large-scale commercial recruitment operations, I have seen far more resumes than is probably healthy for me. I have sat struggling to understand what an applicant has accomplished in their career, how they can qualify fluffy power words like aggressive, competent, hard-working, motivated, with the worst usually being detail-oriented, which is usually spelt wrong!

I must admit that after reading this book, I was rather shocked that it takes people in HR such a short period of time to decide whether you are a suitable candidate for a job or not. Although the author has focused on this issue, he has given quite an interesting way to look at how to apply for jobs, as well as make more of an impact when people in HR get so many similar applications.A good guide, very different from the others I have come across, and for the money, well worth it. Perhaps too long winded in some chapters, but everyone has a different expectations - at least it was easy to follow and made me think

This book really fell into my lap by chance. I read an article in the Wall Street Journal talking about new Resume for the 21st century. It explained how resumes should really only be 10 seconds long. I decided to search that and stumbled across this. This book really is great for anyone who needs to update their resume for the new technological age. The old idea of listing everything you have done on your CV and getting a job based upon that alone seems to be a thing of the past, so this book was certainly an eye-opener for me.
